Lena James, a teacher at the Howard Street Charter School in Salem, Ore., engaged her eighth grade art class in The Community Circle Project. She asked them to submit circles for their graphic design unit, answering the prompt: ‘What are you learning during this challenging time?” Her students learn computer applications and artistic voice/communication in the graphic design unit. Their assignments were produced via distance learning using Sketchpad 5.1 or Pixlr applications. “I thought it would be a great way for students to express themselves regarding what they have been learning during this unprecedented time while also learning to use a computer application,” James said.
